Mens Mental Health Awareness Month Jun 30, 2025

Reflecting on Men’s Mental Health Month | A Month of Breaking Barriers and Embracing Vulnerability
Early today we decided to go at muthaiga just opposite Mathari hospital to wind up the men’s mental health awareness month.
June marked Men’s Mental Health Month, and at Hidden Voices Kenya, it was a powerful time of awakening, unlearning, and courageous conversations.
For far too long, men’s mental health has been shrouded in silence - masked by cultural expectations, fear of judgment, and the damaging notion that vulnerability is weakness. But this past month, we stood together to challenge that narrative.
Giving Men Permission to Speak
Through community forums, digital campaigns, and real-life storytelling, we opened up honest dialogue about the emotional battles many men face; depression, anxiety, trauma, pressure to provide, and the fear of being misunderstood.
We held safe spaces for men to share, be heard, and feel validated without shame. From young students to fathers and professionals, the turnout and openness reminded us of this truth: healing begins where silence ends.
Highlights from the Month
- #HeSpeaks campaign: A powerful series of stories and quotes from Kenyan men opening up about mental wellness
- School outreach events and barbershop forums, where conversations met men in everyday spaces
- Virtual roundtables featuring psychologists, fathers, male mentors, and youth, discussing mental resilience
- Collaborations with male-led organizations to reach more voices
The Journey Continues
Men’s Mental Health Month may be over, but the mission is far from done. The conversations we started in June must now grow into daily practice, deeper compassion, and sustained advocacy.
At Hidden Voices Kenya, we will continue to support and amplify the voices of men navigating mental health challenges - and we invite you to stand with us.
Because strong men do cry. And strong communities listen.
Thank you to all the champions, volunteers, partners, and brave men who showed up this month. Your voice matters!
